LOWTOPIC
Lowtopic is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and live performer from Genoa, as well as the artistic director of BOEM Festival and the newly founded Unsouth Records, with more than thirty tracks to his credit, including albums, EPs, and remixes released on Italian and international labels.
Born Francesco Bacci, Lowtopic was a member of the band 1000 Degrees (2008–2015) and guitarist for Ex-Otago (2010–2022). He found a new home and a new creative direction in electronic music, a genre he decided to explore through ongoing releases, live performances, and collaborations, expanding the project to include the composition of soundtracks for film, theater, and installations.
Lowtopic project is based in Genoa in a studio filled with guitars, effects pedals, figurines, plants, ashtrays, books, and coffee machines; he describes himself as "a nearly middle-aged Genoese man with a mustache, two children, a Ph.D. in the history of architecture, a thousand concerts under his belt, and a studio full of synths".
For his live shows he is accompanied by Emilio Pozzolini (Port-Royal, Earth Begins) on modular synthesizers and Nicola Villa (Visual Substance) on visuals, in an immersive performance featuring improvisation, rearranged tracks, mashups, breakbeats, clubbing, cables, knobs, keys, and nostalgic chords on the electric piano.

"chiaro": clubbing as an emotional experience
"chiaro", Lowtopic’s third studio album, is an instrumental electronic work designed for those who experience clubbing as an emotional journey: ethereal samples, organic breakbeats, and analog synthesizers that shift between introspection and rhythm.
The album, with a direct and empathetic language, eschews overthinking and technological shortcuts to return to the pure act of sound, following hours of studio work, jamming, and continuous digging: a process built on listening and instinct, without artificial mediation. Different worlds coexist on the album, touching and influencing one another: ideas and people, childhood and the present life, the Ligurian Sea, potentiometers, sampling, and field recordings.
"chiaro" fits into that realm of contemporary electronic music where the club becomes an emotional space even before a physical one, where rhythm gives way to storytelling, and the soundscape remains perpetually poised between impulse and introspection.
"chiaro" is presented live with a live A/V performance in the fullest sense of the term.
An ethnographic documentary filmmaker provided Lowtopic with several terabytes of footage from around the world: the Siberian steppe, the rainforest, and the Pacific Islands. The inhabitants of those places and their faces are highlighted in what is a documentary collection of extraordinary beauty and uniqueness. Lowtopic created the album while watching those images, as if it were the soundtrack to an imaginary documentary.
