A Mombao performance isn’t just something you listen to: it’s an experience that sweeps you away and changes you.
Over the years, they have transformed every stage – from small DIY venues to some of Italy’s biggest festivals – into a collective Dionysian ritual, performing hundreds of shows across Italy, Europe, Morocco and the Balkans, and establishing themselves as one of the most iconic live acts of their generation.
To try to tame their live presence and reduce it to a recorded medium would be madness; at the heart of their art lies the visceral body and the political occupation of space. Their uninhibited dance is a collective revolution, a liberation from norms, an imagination of a human and radiant future. Indeed, every performance is largely improvised, making each concert unique and unrepeatable.

LIVE?
"LIVE?" is not a recording of a live performance, but its reimagining: an immersive experience that places the listener at the centre of the stage, at the heart of the ritual. The questions remain open – is it one concert or more than one? Was it recorded entirely live or finalised in the studio? – but the very act of questioning is part of the project itself.
With "LIVE?", Mombao also challenge the system by which music is distributed. In a context where streaming provides artists with only marginal remuneration and reduces works to algorithmic logic, the duo choose to prioritise direct channels and physical connections. The album is not distributed in the traditional way: it circulates primarily at concerts, at listening parties organised within their own community, in a selection of independent shops and via direct purchase. On digital platforms, their presence is deliberately critical and provocative.
Faced with the challenges of the modern world, Mombao see a way forward, a chance for change and rebirth: the desire to learn photosynthesis from plants, to integrate it with artificial intelligence that helps us maintain ecological balance, to communicate with animals, and to find a language common to all of humanity. This is the inspiration behind the album "Sevdah", a genuine meeting of cultures, and an opportunity for the duo to move away from the prevailing apocalyptic and dystopian narrative to imagine other possible futures through a solar punk lens.
Mombao have always fully demonstrated what it truly means to experiment: processed vocals, fusion of styles, folk songs transformed into techno tracks, sound exploration and rituality blend together to create a clear vision, unique on the current scene. An experience that begins with listening and culminates in the most complete immersion of mind and body, passing through currents that touch the deepest layers of each of us.
Some tracks are Eastern European folk songs heavily hybridised with artificial vocals; others are Turkish songs reworked in a techno style; others are Nigerian Yoruba songs; and still others blend original songs with Moroccan Gnawa instruments, seeking to convey the emotion of those words which do not exist in our language but which nevertheless manage to strike a chord at the very core of any culture.
